GRADUATION

June, 2006

Rick Gantman, Superintendent

Graduation—There are few things as gratifying as seeing our community express their genuine pride and enthusiasm in the accomplishments of our students throughout their time in our schools.

This support begins in the elementary schools when the parents of our kindergarteners support the PTA and the family events held throughout the first seven years of our children’s educational lives.  In junior high the auditorium is full for concerts and parents make great efforts to attend afternoon athletic events at different locations in the county.  In high school our children enjoy a following all around the state while partaking in FFA, music, drama, athletics and clubs.  They feel great support from the community in the form of scholarships from our wonderful foundation and from community members who have also shared the very special experience of attending school in the Mount Baker School District.

It all culminates on a very hopeful day in June when our students take their first steps into a much larger world.  No matter what positions of responsibility our students will aspire to, or where their travels may take them… We want them all to know that Mount Baker will always be their home!  Thank you to all of the parents and community members who have helped our children along the path to graduation.  We believe that education is a partnership, and it is through this partnership that we will provide every student with the opportunity to build their futures as productive citizens in our changing world (taken from the district’s Mission Statement).

Nooksack Tribe Donates Dollars—The Nooksack Tribe has once again made a generous donation to the school district.  Members of the tribe presented the $15,769.00 check to Mt Baker staff during a breakfast meeting in May of this year.  The funds will be used to further our work in literacy development and to support our continuous school improvement efforts.
